Dinner Time

On Preparing Dinner

I've no clue what to make for dinner
Can't just let the family get thinner
Need to see what we have on hand
Don't have the time to run an errand

I've got to figure from the fridge
My brows are furrowed in a ridge
So many ingredients for a meal
But together they must appeal

Soup containers and lemon grass
Bubble water, cider and sassafras
Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme
Raman noodles, a lemon, a lime

There are 4 chicken breasts I'll use
Some squash, peppers, mango juice
Green onions and fresh cilantro
Indeed, all these are very apropos

In the cupboards, lots of olive oil
Mac and cheese and potting soil
(Which is terribly out of place)
My pantry is a chef's disgrace

On to the task of preparation
I'm ready at my cooking station
The chicken breasts, pounded thin
Chopped veggies; I'll toss them in

A starch I need to go alongside
Potatoes, pasta, maybe rice fried
And a quick salad with tomatoes
I know, I'll bake those sweet potatoes

While all is cooking, I'll set the table
And pick a red wine with a pretty label
I'm working up a hungry sweat
'Cause I know the yummy food I'll get
