The Dark Ages

About the approach of winter

The dark ages of winter approach
I'm needing a good book to read
I'll sit by the light at night and curl
In my comfy chair without a care

I'll make a good hot soup or stew
Spend time in the kitchen baking
While the supper cooks I'll look
At winter catalogs I've been saving

Naturally the artificial light isn't
Like the sun; it can't fool the internal
Clock giving the body a subtle hint
To tuck in and obey the laws diurnal

But I'm glad we have better than
Candlelight to see and read the pages
Get something done, have night fun
Under the lamp during the dark ages
