Books on the White Shelves

About the books and things that occupy our white book shelves

We have many books on the white shelves
All sizes; some are old and weathered
Some given; most we bought ourselves
I think maybe one of them is leathered

Hardcover novels and paperback romance
Some sci-fi series and a book on Versailles
Some I'd like to re-read when I've the chance
From high school there's Catcher in the Rye

There are spaces too, white cubby holes
Where we exhibit numerous souvenirs
Alas, among them, there are no girandoles
We would miss a relic if it disappears

Among the chotchkes there's a beer stein
That plays Ach du Lieber Augustein
Also known as Did You Ever See a Lassie
A mellow song that's not too brassy

These sundries are company for our books
Pleasing to the eye when taken as a whole
We try not to jam things in the tight nooks
So, we lift our stein, "Here's to books, Skoal"
