I Lay My Soul Bare

You know my secrets

For you, I lay my soul bare
And that is how I don't despair
You caress my naked hair
Love's fragrance is in the air

I tell you each secret thought
A secret shared no longer fraught
With agony of possible discovery
I avoid being forever in recovery

I can breathe; the weight is lifted
For I am so wondrously gifted
With such a loving companion
My courtier and my champion

For you, I lay my soul bare
And together we play truth or dare
But there is no fear twixt us
There is naught we don't discuss

We captured the flag of our youth
With each other there's only truth
Yet, when I grow old along with thee
Your same gentle face will I see

Our minds are as if only one
You are the night, and I the sun
Few words are ever needed
Communication never impeded

My soul is bare for your perusal
I'll never burden you with a refusal
Should we ever not see eye to eye
We'll compromise like a true ally

So had you not already known
I penned these words as I atone
For you, I lay my soul bare
And that is how I don't despair
