Eleven Score and Thirteen

About Independence Day 2009

Eleven score and thirteen, odd numbers you say
They represent the year GW led the way
To make America a special place
Of wonder, freedom, hope and grace

To finally get things right with race
To enable our astronauts to be first in space
To finally get things right with women
To accept the huddled masses, to allow many in

The fireworks a spectacle; smell of gun powder
Takes us back to time when musket fire was louder
When settlers baked bread in a brick oven
When troops froze in NJ in trousers of wool woven

Eleven score and thirteen years, let's double
Please D.C., keep the US out of trouble
Do those things that are really noble
Our society and beyond is much more mobile

Americans be the good folk that you are
Remember our flag of many stars
Treat your neighbors with respect
And let's enjoy ourselves, in this retrospect
