Going Waltzing Matilda

About Australia and Waltzing Matilda

To Australia I've never been
But someday I plan to visit
Hopefully takes no contest to win
To see for myself what is it

I like the adventurous spirit
Of the Waltzing Matilda song
It transports me when I hear it
To a quiet outback billabong

To bygone days of a simple life
When a swagman might be about
Cutting his tucker with a knife
Was he right or was he a lout?

In On the Beach, there's a scene
Where the folks are all a fishing
And they sing Matilda, very keen
For a good life they are wishing

I don't know if Matilda is meant
To be happy or sad or whatever
But the Aussies should be content
To have this tune forever
