Rise Up the Waves

About traveling on the ocean

Ocean waves awash on the beach
They traveled from a ways and afar
The horizon, today, appears within reach
The shore has some black, maybe tar?

In olden days folks thought the world
Ended where the sky met the sea
Till they voyaged away with sails unfurled
Through gales and typhoons toward destiny

The sailor ate the fish he caught by net
He drank the water from the sky
He was friendly but wary with those he met
He welcomed the occasional seagull's cry

He navigated by the nightly stars
He imagined in the sea great beasts
The sun baked his skin to scars
Then, he miraged cool climes and feasts

We find ourselves in present days
Filled with love of the lore of the sea
Of pirates and captains and salty sprays
Rise up the waves, stay safely alee
