Sitting in Trident

About the comings and goings at Trident coffee shop

Sitting in Trident on a muggy day
Fourth of July weekend in the air
They brew great coffee by the way
We're just enjoying the breakfast fare

The barista has worked here awhile
The same one every this day
He knows what we drink, what a guy
No change of order to cause him dismay

The regulars saunter in, form a line
Some tourists come in as well
For coffee or tea and something to dine
They find a seat to set a spell

And look, those with their computers
Students or self-employed, no worry
It's unlikely they are commuters
For they don't seem to be in a hurry

Every few weeks they switch the art
Today, portraits, landscapes, nudes
By viewing these works we play our part
But keep silent on our platitudes

When we return the art will have changed
We'll find a table and do the crossword
Discuss how the week'll be arranged
And happy conversations, overheard
