Trail Folk

Inspired by Peter on Long's Peak Trail on his Birthday

Today we met some trail folk
All of us out for a deep toke
Of the cool, clear Rocky Mt. Air

The people we meet on the trail
Say "hi" or "hello" without fail
And keep on going, nary a care

Clumps of horse poo, steer clear
And milk duds from a deer
Step on them only if you dare

The temp was seventies, perfect
Clouded sky to mute sun's effect
Mostly still and no annoying glare

The trail folk use ski poles today
To help steady footing on the way
No one tripped, that must be rare

Older folk, many twenty-something
They were accustomed to navigating
This well worn trail, in the thin air

Up to the tree line, over 2 miles
We went; But we saw their smiles
As they returned, from way up there
